Where the forecast comes from

Conditions and forecasts come from Open-Meteo, which blends the world's major numerical weather models — the systems run by national weather agencies that simulate the atmosphere from millions of observations. When you search a city, the site looks up its exact coordinates and requests the forecast for that precise point, in that city's own local time. Nothing about your search is stored, and using "my location" sends your coordinates only to the weather service to fetch the forecast — never to us.

How to read the numbers

Feels like combines air temperature with wind and humidity — wind strips heat from skin (wind chill) while humidity blocks sweat from evaporating (heat index), so 30° humid feels far hotter than 30° dry. Humidity is relative to what the air could hold at its current temperature, which is why 90% on a cool morning is normal but 90% at 35° is oppressive. The 💧 percentage on each forecast day is the chance of measurable precipitation, not the amount — 60% means rain is more likely than not, but it could be a brief shower.

How far ahead can you trust a forecast?

Modern 1–3 day forecasts are impressively reliable — temperature typically within a couple of degrees, and rain/no-rain right about 85% of the time. Days 4–5 are good for the broad pattern (a warm spell, a storm system coming). Days 6–7 are best treated as a leaning, not a promise: the atmosphere is chaotic, and small errors in today's data grow exponentially. That's not a flaw in any one app — it's the mathematical limit of predicting the weather, discovered by meteorologist Edward Lorenz in the 1960s. For anything critical past day 5, re-check as the date approaches; forecasts sharpen dramatically inside 72 hours.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this differ from my phone's weather app?

Different apps use different models and blend them differently, so a degree or two of disagreement is normal — especially for precipitation. When models disagree strongly, it usually means the situation is genuinely uncertain.

Is this really free? What's the catch?

The data source is free for non-commercial use and this site adds no accounts, downloads, or paywalls. The page supports itself with ordinary ads — that's the whole model.

Can I get weather for a tiny village?

Usually yes — the search covers a worldwide place database. If your village isn't found, search the nearest town: forecasts are computed on a grid a few kilometres wide, so a neighbor town's forecast is effectively yours.
